THE BASICS

The Front offers yoga classes for both members and day guests.  New members, as well as drop-ins, are always welcome. Yoga at The Front is an excellent choice for anyone from a beginner up to long-term yoga practitioner. We offer unique classes and care about our practitioners. Our classes offer a non-competitive environment that is conducive to learning and expanding ones ability. 

All classes are held in our wood-floored studio.  Participants have full access to our locker rooms, showers, and to our weight and aerobic equipment. 

Beginning classes require no previous experience; all fitness levels are welcome. Students are encouraged to come on an empty stomach, hydrated, and with an open heart and mind. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before class is scheduled to begin. Wear comfortable clothes and leave shoes outside the classroom. Bare feet are encouraged. Please let the instructor know if you have any injuries or have had recent surgeries that might cause pain during a yoga session.

Your first class is free. If you've never attended Yoga at The Front, then sign-up for a class--it's on us.  When you arrive, just let the front desk staff know it's your first time!

ABOUT THE CLASSES

Align and Refine: Recover from the week. A therapeutic approach to relieve low back pain and open the hips and shoulders.

Ashtanga Foundations: This class is perfect for refining one's understanding of the foundational aspects of the asanas (body postures) and vinyasas (specific ways of moving between asanas). Open to all levels of experience and ability.

Ashtanga Primary Series: Yoga Chikitsa (Yoga Therapy). This class follows the the full primary series of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system, as taught in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. This intelligently sequenced practice uses a combination of Vinyasa, Asana, Ujjayi breath and bandhas (energy locks) to increase muscular strength, flexibility, balance, stamina, and consciousness. It is recommended that one go to at least a month or so of Mysore class or one of the 1 hour Ashtanga classes before attending full primary series. This class goes through a full range of asanas after warming up with sun salutations and then concluding with backbends, shoulderstands, and headstands as well as a short sitting and breathing practice to ground and assimilate. Lying down and resting for the final 5-10 minutes, we experience a very full and balanced practice.

Ashtanga Yoga: This class is the first half of the Primary Series on Tuesdays and the second half on Thursdays. Open to all levels, modifications will be provided for those with tighter muscles and joints or injuries.

Beginner's Yoga: For those new to yoga. Learn safe alignment and commonly used poses. Basic techniques for breathing.

Intro to the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga: This Saturday class slowly and playfully encourages exploration of "next level" asanas including deep backbending, hip opening and twists as well as strengthening and balancing postures. Recommended for those with experience in the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

Mysore Ashtanga: This class is modeled after the traditional way of learning and practicing Ashtanga from Mysore India, taught by the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The class is for all people from complete beginners to people with a long term practice. It is for all ages from 10 and up. You will have one on one help and support from the instructor in a group setting. Beginners plan on attending for a shorter amount of time for the first week of so so we can help you memorize sun salutations and establish a foundational practice on which to build. Come and leave anytime during the 2 hour block.

Power Vinyasa: A powerful, energetic form of yoga where students fluidly move from one pose to the next while connecting their breathing to their movements.

Yoga Therapy: Heal yourself and repair muscles. Deep rest to recharge for the week. Restoration of the spine.

FULL & NEW MOON DAYS

In Ashtanga yoga tradition both full and new moon days are observed holidays from the practice. The moon’s relative position to the sun is seen to create strong energetic experiences and patterns in our bodies and minds.

Feel free to come in and use our space to do a gentle self practice on moon days.
