Vertical Dance – Half Day Camp
Climbing and Dance possess many similarities; both use the body for expressions of balance, strength and grace, yet they are traditionally done in different realms. In this interdisciplinary class we will explore the similarities between dance and climbing, bring dance moves and concepts to the vertical environment and develop our skills as dancers through climbing’s unique movements. Over the course of the class students will synthesize dance and climbing to craft a short piece for performance near the end of the camp.
June 12-16, 12:30-3:30pm
On the Draw! – Half Day Camp
Climb and Observe the beauty of vertical movement while developing your figure drawing skills! Combining rock climbing and Figure drawing this class starts at the Salt Lake Arts Academy and wraps up at the Front Climbing Club. At the gym we’ll break out our sketchbooks (before those chalk bags) in order to create gestural studies of figures on the wall. Then we’ll use our hands another way – along with good footwork and balance, to learn how to be a better climber. Students will also take turns creating interesting climbing poses for their classmates to sketch.
