Adventure. We live it, breathe it and dream about it. But we can gift it, too! With the Wasatch mountains at our doorstep and the desert in our backyard, what better way to show your adventure buddy you love them than with some new gear that’ll facilitate fun? And what’s a more thoughtful way to show gratitude to your belay buddy for not dropping you while working your proj? 😉

Plus, The Front’s Gear Shop has a little something for everyone! From well-priced apparel to sweet deals on belay devices, we’re certain you’ll be able to find the perfect gift for yourself or anyone on your “nice” list.

Any Assisted Braking Device – 20% Off

If you haven’t yet heard, we’ve transitioned our gym policies to allow only Assisted Braking Devices (ABDs) for both lead and top-rope belaying. To help with this transition, all ABDs in our store are 20% off until December 31.

ABDs such as Petzl’s GriGri, Beal’s Birdie and Elderid’s Jul line are all included. For more information about ABDs click here.

Liquid Chalk – 20% Off

Have you tried liquid chalk yet? No?! Well, now’s the perfect time! The Front prefers the liquid stuff to its solid sibling because it results in cleaner air and tends to last longer on sweaty digits than powder chalk does. During the holiday season, all liquid chalk will be 20% off! Our favorites so far are Petzl, Friction Labs and 8b+.

Prep for the Send

Front Swag

The mantra for sending rings true: Look Good, Feel Good, Look Good.

With this in mind, we recently updated our apparel designs! Since then, our hoodies, shirts, hats and stickers have been FLYING off the shelves! Give the gift of your favorite gym to your belay buddy this holiday season and help add style to their wardrobe!

Tension Hangboard

Ever wonder how climbers like Sharma get fingers of steel? Well, that’s thanks to a hangboard.

They’re a great way to increase finger strength for climbing. After a few weeks using one, climbers will see noticeable difference in ability.

We like Tension’s hangboards because of their wooden, ergonomic build. Wooden hangboards are a little more forgiving on skin than plastic options, too.

Crack Gloves

Talk about a gift that keeps on giving! Climbing tape works well, too, but there’s nothing like a reusable glove to satisfy all crack climbing desires!

Crack gloves are sweet because they save skin, time and tape! They’re made of a rubber material that’s built to stand the test of time. And they’re easy to take on and off, which makes them handy for when you need gloves for only a few pitches on a long route.

Guidebooks

Let’s face it, Mountain Project can only do so much. The approach beta is usually obscure and ambiguous, which leads to more time spent on the trail than on rock. And when you do eventually get to the base of a cliff, every route is usually not listed.

Enter guidebooks. Not only do they provide a more complete listing of climbs at a crag and beta for approaches and descents, they also usually contain robust history of the area regarding geology, first ascent information and anything else you could possibly want to know.

Consider picking up “A Granite Guide” for local trips, the new “Creek Freak” to satisfy all your crack climbing desires, or the “Bishop Bouldering” and “Joshua Tree Sport Climbing” books for when you hit the road.

Cams

Ah, the beautiful shiny goodness that is a cam. The subtle sound they make clinking together on a harness while ascending a route is unbeatable. And a solid cam placement below an elvis leg always feels reassuring, too.

We love BD’s ultralight camalots. They’re ideal for long fast-and-light mountain missions and their ergonomic thumb loop has proven to be a favorite for climbers around the world.

We’re also a big fan of the Metolius Power Cams. Like BD’s ultralight, their weight is minimal. We also love the “Red, Yellow and Green Light” design on the exterior, which indicates good and bad placements.

Front 10-Punch Pass

Are you trying to convince your buddy to get a membership? Need a new climbing partner? Well, look no further than a 10-punch pass! It’s a great gift to give someone who can’t decide whether to get a full membership, or for someone who has never tried indoor climbing before and is itching to do so!

10-Punch Passes work at all our locations, including our new South Main gym opening early 2020!

Community Gifts - Impact Coalition

Maybe you or your loved one already has all the climbing gear, gadgets and gizmos! If that’s the case, an Impact Coalition sign up makes for a great gift!

In May 2018 we started the Impact Coalition to partner with and support local nonprofits that are dedicated to working on issues close to our hearts.

To join, Front members pick one or more of the nonprofits to support through monthly donations on top of their membership dues. Then, The Front matches donations, up to $80,000. To date, we’ve collectively raised over $43,000! Learn more & sign up here.

Stocking Stuffers

The best gifts come in small packages, right? To fill some stockings, consider picking up: BLDG Active skin repair products, hand salve, Front stickers, brushes… We’re sure we have something your buddy is missing! Stop by the Gear Shop during the month of December so you don’t miss some of these sweet deals! Our shop is open the same hours as the rest of the gym.

At the end of the day, though, the best gift you could give a climbing pal is usually a solid belay or an attentive spot while they work on sending a new boulder. For climbers, it’s usually the little things that count most.
