Get Outdoors Expo at Southtowne Expo Center, Sandy - May 14th, 2011
Detail for Finals:
The FCC semi-finals and finals will be held in a modified on-sight format, where competitors have 5 minutes to complete each climb.
For each competitor, the 5 minute climb period will be followed by a 5 minute break period, with a 30 second transition time between each period.
Once started, the comp will continue this climb, transition, rest sequence without pause until the last competitor has completed.
Both genders climb at the same time.
Climbers will wait in isolation until their scheduled start time.
Scoring will be based on the number of successful moves completed for each climb. The total score from all climbs will determine the final score.
Climbers are required to check into the isolation area within the scheduled time.
Isolation prohibits any electronic devices that can receive any communications or messages, these include, but are not limited to: cell phones, smart phones, handheld or portable computers. Examples are: iPod touch, iPhone, iPad.
Climbers are required to either remove their belongings from the isolation area before going to climb, or wait until after the last climber leaves isolation to retrieve their belongings.
Rules for the comp will be posted in the isolation area and will be given to each competitor as they check into and enter the isolation area.
The isolation monitor will notify the chief judge and head routesetter of any isolation violations. Penalties will be determined by the chief judge and can range from minus-points to disqualification.
Climbing order will be posted for each comp prior to the comp.
Climbers, one from each gender, will be taken from the isolation area to the first staging area via an isolation runner 5 minutes before they they start climbing. This 5 minutes allows the climber to shoe up and prepare for route #1.
As the climbers are brought out from isolation, they will be directed by the isolation runner to a chair facing away from the wall.
The climb period starts when the route judge prompts the climber to turn and face the wall. The judge will then identify the route by number and tape color, and explain start and finish holds.
The climber will then have 5 minutes to complete the problem or to try to get as far as they can in the time allotted.
When the climber either finishes the route or the time has expired, they will be taken by a runner to the next staging area to sit in a chair, facing away from the wall, and rest for their 5 minutes.
In between each route a 30 second “transition” period will be allotted to collect chalk, water bottle and other personal items and move to the next route staging area.
This pattern will repeat until the climber finishes the last problem.
Climbers are not allowed back into isolation until the last climber has left isolation.
Each route will be worth a specified point value. Each move on a climb will be allotted a certain point value based upon the number of moves.
Climb, flash, and fall values will be posted for each comp and be available at the competitors meeting.
A climber's score will be a value of their high point on the route, plus flash (if appropriate), then minus the value of the number of falls (if any). After each climb period, the route judge will tell the climber what move or hold they were scored to, and have the competitor initial the scorecard as such.
The final score is the sum of the points from all climbs.
